I Convertitori Fibra a Ethernet sfruttano un ricetrasmettitore in rame per trasformare il segnale da un collegamento Ethernet su RJ45 in un collegamento utilizzabile da un ricetrasmettitore in fibra ottica. Questi media converter servono per i collegamenti di cablaggio Ethernet (categoria 5, 5e, 6, 6a, 7, 8) a diversi cavi in fibra ottica, con fibra multimodale, monomodale o a fascio singolo. Questo tipo di interferenza può danneggiare i dati sui cavi Ethernet como CAT 5/6/7/8. I dati trasmessi sui cavi in fibra ottica sono immuni al rumore EMI, garantendo una trasmissione dati ottimale in tutto l'impianto.
