Funciones de Conversores de Medio Gigabit:
Auto-Negotiation (802.3ab) | El conversor de medios admite negociación automática. La interfaz de fibra 1000Base-X negocia conforme a la cláusula 37 del estándar 802.3. 1000Base-T negocia conforme a las cláusulas 28 y 40 de 802.3. 1000Base-X establece el enlace con la otra parte tras alcanzarse el máximo denominador común (HCD) y establecerse el enlace de cobre con la otra parte. 1000Base-X continúa realizando el ciclo de negociación mediante la transmisión de un fallo remoto por fuera de línea (siempre y cuando esto se haya activado a través de la configuración del conmutador) hasta que el cobre haya establecido el enlace y los HCD coincidan. Auto-MDIX con corrección de desviación | Auto-MDIX (cruce automático de interfaz dependiente del soporte) detecta la señalización de la interfaz 1000Base-T para determinar el tipo de cable que se encuentra conectado (de paso directo o de cruce) y configura automáticamente la conexión cuando está activado. El conversor de medios también puede realizar correcciones en el caso de un par en el que se hayan intercambiado los hilos. El conversor de medios se ajusta para una desviación de retardo de hasta 64 ns entre los pares 1000Base-T. |

Fiber Fault Alert | Con Fiber Fault Alert (alerta por fallo de fibra), se informa del estado del receptor 1000Base-X al transmisor 1000Base-X. Indicators
Power / TST
This green LED is turned on when power is applied to the media converter. Otherwise it is off. The LED will blink when in Loopback test mode.
Fiber link on / Receive activity (LKF)
This green LED is operational only when power is applied. The LED is on when the 1000Base-X link is on and flashes with a 50% duty cycle when data is received. The LED will slow blink when the 1000Base-X interface has been taken down as a result of a fault on the 1000Base-T interface.
Copper link on / Receive activity (LKC)
This green LED is operational only when power is applied. The LED i on when the 1000Base-T link is on and flashes with a 50% duty cycle when data is received. The LED will slow blink when the 1000Base-T interface has been taken down as a result of a fault on the 1000Base-T interface.
Switches - accessible through a side opening in the chassis
Auto-Negotiation
- Enabled (Default) - In this mode the 1000Base-X and the 1000Base-T will negotiate to the HCD of the two link partners. The 1000Base-X will link up after the negotiation is completed and the 1000Base-T has linked up.
- Disabled - The 1000Base-X will not use auto negotiation. The 1000Base-T will negotiate to the HCD of the Switch settings and the link partner.
Link Mode
Link Mode provides a transparency to the state of the copper link allowing for simplified trouble shooting from the devices connected to the media converter.
Normal (Default — Up)
- With Fiber Auto Negotiation enabled when the 1000Base-T link goes down the 1000Base-X link is brought down. The 1000Base-X link will advertise Remote Fault (Link Fault).
- With Fiber Auto Negotiation disabled the state of the 1000Base-T link has no effect on the 1000Base-X link.
Smart Link Pass Through (Down)
- With Fiber Auto Negotiation enabled the behavior is as follows. When the 1000Base-T link goes down the 1000Base-X link is brought down. The 1000Base-X link will advertise Remote Fault (Link Fault). When Remote Fault (Link Fault) is received on the 1000Base-X interface the 1000Base-T transmitter will be turned off. When the 1000Base-T receiver is off the 1000Base-X transmitter will be turned off. When the 1000Base-X receiver goes off the 1000Base-T transmitter will be turned off.
- With Fiber Auto-Negotiation disabled the behavior is as follows. When the 1000Base-T receiver is off the 1000Base-X transmitter will be turned off. When the 1000Base-X receiver goes off the 1000Base-T transmitter will be turned off.
Pause
When Fiber Auto Negotiation is disabled Pause should only be enabled when all devices connected to the media converter support pause.
- Enabled (Default) - The Media converter will advertise Pause capable, Asymmetric pause not needed during Auto-Negotiation.
- Disabled - The Media converter will advertise that it does not have Pause capability during Auto-Negotiation.
Fiber Fault Alert
The Fiber Fault Alert switch has meaning when Auto-Negotiation is disabled
- Enabled (Default - Up) - When the 1000Base-X receiver is off the 1000Base-X transmitter is turned off. Periodically the 1000Base-X receiver will be turned on for a short period to allow the condition to clear if the 1000Base-X link partner is using a similar feature.
- Disabled (Down)
Duplex
- Full (Default-Up) - The media converter will advertise Full Duplex Capable, Half Duplex Capable.
- AUTO (Down) - The Media converter will advertise Full Duplex Not Capable, Half Duplex Capable.
Remote Loopback
The media converter can perform a loopback on the 1000Base-X fiber interface.
- Disabled (Default - Up)
- Enabled - The 1000Base-X receiver is looped to the 1000Base-X transmitter. The 1000Base-T transmitter is taken off the interface.

Utilizando adaptadores de acondicionamiento y un conversor de medio 1000Base-LX, conecte un conmutador Gigabit de cobre con un conmutador/enrutador 1000base-LX remoto a través de una planta de cable multimodo.
Monomodo / Single Fiber
Conecte puertos de cobre a través de un solo cable de fibra (también conocido como “Bi-Direccional”, BiDi)
Cuando se utiliza un solo cable de fibra, se necesita un par de Conversores de Medios de un solo cable de fibra para la conversión de cobre a fibra. Los Conversores de Medios para un solo cable de fibra de Perle también se conocen como modelos “Up/Down” (subida/bajada) Por ejemplo, el S-1000-S1SC10U (“Up”) y el S-1000-S1SC10D (“Down”), que se muestran más abajo, deben utilizarse por parejas. Cada “Up” debe emparejarse con un par “Down” con el fin de gestionar las frecuencias de transmisión y recepción por separado.
La mayoría de las instalaciones para conversores de medios de fibra monomodo son de “conector doble” o “fibra doble”, en las que una conexión de fibra se utiliza para la transmisión y la otra para la recepción. Éstas están físicamente “cruzadas” con el fin de reflejar los enlaces de transmisión/recepción.
Sin embargo, para reducir costes, o bien si la fibra disponible es limitada, puede utilizarse tecnología WDM. WDM utiliza frecuencias de transmisión y recepción independientes para comunicar a través de un solo cable de fibra. La tecnología WDM se basa en que las fibras ópticas pueden transportar muchas longitudes de onda de luz simultáneamente sin que se produzca interacción entre las longitudes de onda. Por consiguiente, un solo cable de fibra puede transportar numerosos canales o señales de longitud de onda independientes simultáneamente.
Por ello, debe recordar que, si se utiliza un solo cable de fibra, necesitará un Conversor de Medios “Up” (de subida) en un extremo y un Conversor de Medios “Down” (de bajada) en el otro para lograr la conversión de cobre a fibra.
